911事件发生后，美国公众重新唤醒了对这首歌的热情。美国的公众媒体一方面充斥着《星条旗永不落》和《美丽的美国》这类“鼓动战争”的歌曲，另一方面，电台和电视台也接到了无数民众请求播放《想象》的电话，一时间这首歌在美国各地的流行及摇滚乐电台里到处可以听到。在纽约时代广场上方还竖起了一块广告牌，是由洋子花钱买下来的，上书：IMAGINE ALL THE PEOPLE/LIVING LIFE IN PEACE。在为911难者募捐的义演晚会上，尼尔·扬（Neil Young）演唱了这首歌。当初他接到组委会的邀请后，一时想不出自己有哪首歌合适，还是他的妻子Pegi鼓动扬演唱《想象》。扬对这首歌的处理几乎完全按照列侬的版本，连弦乐部分都没有改动。只有一处：列侬唱的是“Imagine no possessions, I wonder if YOU can,”，扬唱成了“I wonder if I can,”这两人都是音乐界的巨富，这个改动可不是没有意义的！列侬后来解释说：“佛教徒们常说，要在思想上一无所有。简简单单地放弃所有的金钱并不能做到这一点。”

许多音乐界的名人对这首歌的评价也很有意思。“老鹰乐队”的唐·汉利（Don Henley）承认，这首歌对于他有双重的意义。一方面这是一首很有安慰作用的歌曲，另一方面，这首歌也永久地和暴力联系在了一起。如果我们不能摆脱上帝和财产的束缚，我们就永远不会摆脱暴力的阴影。对于歌中有关宗教的那句歌词，汉利说，他很有共鸣，因为他觉得世界上的任何宗教一开始时都有着好的愿望，但最后总是被疯狂的人所异化。他觉得列侬本人是一个很看重精神世界的人，他不是反对精神世界的宗教，而是反对“有组织的宗教”（Organized Religion），只是歌词需要简洁押韵，不适合说“有组织的宗教”罢了。

U2的波诺（Bono）曾说，列侬是他最欣赏的歌曲作者。这首歌他最欣赏的就是里面佛教的理念，即“想象之后是行动”。他不喜欢有的人把这首歌当作是新世纪（New Age）的圣歌，在他看来，这首歌告诉人们，你一定要先有一个想象，一个计划，然后则必须付诸行动，否则就没有任何意义。而列侬的伟大之处就在于，他不但这样想了，也这样行动了。

Rage Against the Machine乐队的吉它手Tom Morello说，如果人们真的理解了列侬在这首歌中所要表达的感情，那么我们早就会在这个国家里掀起一场革命了。

此外，这首《想象》是奥运会史上除了奥运会歌外，演唱最多的一首歌曲，在1996年亚特兰大奥运会闭幕式、2006年都灵冬奥会开幕式和2012年伦敦奥运会闭幕式，分别由美国黑人歌手、意大利歌手和英国儿童合唱团小演员们演唱这首歌曲。

瑞士的班得瑞（Bandari）乐团在1990年发行的专辑《寂静山林》中翻唱。

JackJohnson也做了此歌的翻唱版本并收录在专辑中。

英国天籁童声歌手Declan Galbraith在其2002年发行的首张专辑《Declan》中重新演绎这首经典之作。

艾薇儿（Avril Lavigne）和欢乐合唱团(Glee Club) 也都曾翻唱过这首反战经典之作。

美国摇滚乐队Train也翻唱过这首歌并在2013年1月发行。
